Texas Tech's Tuberville bolts for Cincinnati 20 days before bowl game

An unexpected layer of intrigue has suddenly been cast on the Gophers' upcoming match-up with Texas Tech in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville abruptly resigned Saturday in order to fill the head coaching vacancy at the University of Cincinnati, leaving the Red Raiders reeling three weeks before their showdown with the Gophers.
Tuberville went 20-17 in his three seasons in with Texas Tech, and had his team back in a bowl game with a 7-5 record after recording only five wins in 2011.
Tuberville was in Houston on Wednesday with Gophers coach Jerry Kill for a press conference previewing the Car Care Bowl. There was no indication in that meeting of Tuberville's impending departure.
Texas Tech has yet to announce who will take over the head coaching spot for the bowl game or for the long-term.
