The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed point guard Sundiata Gaines to take roster spot vacated by Maurice Ager being waived Thursday.
With Jonny Flynn (hip) and Luke Ridnour (hamstring) not expected back until next week at the earliest and Wayne Ellington (thigh) day-to-day, the team needed to add depth at point guard.
Gaines worked out for the team Wednesday in Sacramento after Ridnour and Ellington had gotten hurt earlier in the road trip.
Gaines played 32 games last season for the Utah Jazz averaging 3.3 points 1.2 assists and 6.8 minutes per game.
Presumably, Gaines will be the backup to Sebastian Telfair Friday night when the Wolves take on the New York Knicks at Target Center.
