Liam Hendriks showed plenty of promise for the Minnesota Twins in spring training, and he carried that over with two solid starts against the Rangers and Rays to start the season.
But after watching Hendriks get hit hard by the Red Sox and Angels, the Twins elected to recall left-hander Scott Diamond from Triple-A Rochester. The struggling Hendriks was officially sent down on Sunday to make room on the 25-man roster.
Diamond owns a 2.60 ERA with 26 strikeouts and seven walks in 34 2/3 innings for Rochester this season.
Diamond is expected to arrive in Minneapolis on Sunday evening, along with shortstop Brian Dozier, who will make his major league debut on Monday.
