Tom Pelissero is taking his commentary to the weeknight airwaves.

The senior editor of will take over as 1500 ESPN's host from 6 to 8 p.m. weekdays later this month, program director Brad Lane announced on Sunday.

"Tom has obviously done extraordinary work in helping create and manager all the great content you see on," Lane said. "The site has been built as one of only a handful of radio station-initiated endeavors in the country that is not just an aggregate of sports news, analysis and opinion from other sources; but a unique and original generator of them. His work in this regard will continue.

"But Tom has also taken giant leaps on the air, from initially contributing with Vikings reports and updates to becoming a more well-rounded personality with the ability to tackle all sports with keen insight and wit."

An Edina native, Pelissero began work in the Twin Cities media in 2003 and returned in March 2010 after a three-year stint as assistant sports editor covering the Packers for the Green Bay Press-Gazette. His on-air role expanded in February, when he joined Jim Souhan as co-host of "Sunday Morning SportsTalk" and "The Ron Gardenhire Show."

Pelissero fills the slot vacated earlier this month when Joe Anderson joined Judd Zulgad in the midday timeslot for "Judd & Phunn" -- making 1500 ESPN live and local from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every weekday.

"We've come a long way since launching this media entity 17 months ago, and I feel like we're just getting warmed up," Pelissero said. "I can't think of a better way to do my part than by joining the likes of Judd Zulgad, Joe Anderson, Phil Mackey, Patrick Reusse and Joe Soucheray in the 1500 ESPN lineup."

A start date for the new show will be announced soon.
