CHICAGO -- The Minnesota Twins announced two roster moves heading into the All-Star break Sunday.
As a result, they will be without any Renes.
Outfielder Rene Tosoni and catcher Rene Rivera were optioned to Triple-A Rochester to make room for outfielder Delmon Young, who is coming off the disabled list, and infielder Trevor Plouffe.
Young and Plouffe will be added to the roster prior to Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
Tosoni came up with big hits on Friday and Sunday, helping the Twins take three out of four over the White Sox.
Manager Ron Gardenhire said with an outfield logjam on the horizon, Tosoni needs to go down and play every day in Rochester.
"They've got so many outfielders, he has to make a move," said Tosoni, who was hitting .205/.256/.301 at the time of his demotion. "It's been fortunate for me to be here, just because of injuries ... But I've had a good time being here. ...
"I'm not upset about going back down. I understand everything, how it works. It is what it is. Hopefully I'll be back soon."
Rivera hit just .181/.244/.264 with one home run in 78 plate appearances, but he worked well with starter Francisco Liriano, which initially gave the Twins second thoughts about who to keep between he and Drew Butera.
The Twins had kept three catchers on the roster since Joe Mauer's return on June 17.
