Prior to the Twins' loss to the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, Trevor Plouffe was put on the 15-day disabled list due to inflammation between the ninth rib and costal cartilage on his left side.
Plouffe's injury was triggered on Saturday during a 12-9 defeat when he dove to make a play on a single from Ian Kinsler in the third inning. Plouffe, in obvious pain, remained in the field for the remainder of the inning, but he was eventually taken out of the game in the fourth.
With Plouffe on the DL, the Twins opted to call up shortstop Pedro Florimon.
Florimon, who had been at Triple-A Rochester since May 8, entered Sunday's game in the eighth inning as a pinch runner.
Eduardo Nunez is also battling injury after tweaking his right hamstring while filling in at third base for Plouffe on Saturday.
