Purple Podcast, episode 3: Goessling on why Adrian Peterson loves Zimmer
The coaches took Tuesday’s off day to adjust the practice reps for players. What have we seen with the adjusted practice reps? Are there any surprises in the snap reallocations? On that note, should we read into Chad Greenway losing middle linebacker snaps Wednesday and Thursday? Who do you expect to be the starting middle linebacker week 1? How do you see the quarterback position shaping up? There are some stories saying Matt Cassel and Teddy Bridgwater are splitting reps with the first-team offense, but is that accurate? Who’s likely to be the starter in week 1? Goessling talked at length with Adrian Peterson on Thursday and wrote a piece about how Peterson wasn’t happy in Minnesota when Leslie Frazier was fired. He’s come around now, and Goessling outlines that part of the conversation and touches on a few other topics from their conversation.

MANKATO, Minn. - Teddy Bridgewater expressed how unhappy he was following Saturday's scrimmage that saw his series with the first-team offense end with an interception by Chad Greenway.

Bridgewater specifically mentioned how offensive coordinator Norv Turner wanted him to speed his progression up, especially as he leads the offense near the goal line.

However, Turner isn't discouraged by Bridgewater's four interceptions that spanned three practices last week.

"I just have a different perspective than all of you," Turner said. "I think [Teddy] is playing at an awfully high level. [Matt Cassel and Bridgewater], they've both had over 150 passes, each of them...one of [the INTs] for each guy was a bad quarterback decision. One of them for each guy was a receiver either fell down or ran a poor route. And one of them I thought was a great play. If you throw three interceptions in 150 attempts, you're playing at a high level."

Turner's seen enough from Bridgewater so far that he wants to put him behind the Vikings' starting offensive line in Friday's preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders.

"I like what our second offensive line is doing," Turner said. "We need to play Teddy with the first line. We need to mix a lot of players. I think we're still trying to work that out in terms of exactly how we want to do it."

Turner deferred to head coach Mike Zimmer for the final say on divvying up snaps, but as the Vikings released their unofficial depth chart on Tuesday -- it's clear Matt Cassel is the starter under center.

"There will be a number of plays and we want to see Teddy play," Turner said. "He needs to play to get through that first time of going out."

Zimmer noted on Monday that Turner will be calling offensive plays from upstairs in the coach's box, which is where Turner will continue to evaluate Bridgewater at TCF Bank Stadium on Friday.

"It's probably less hectic at the top, that's the upside of it," Turner said. "When you are on the field, you're depending on someone upstairs to help you...Now I just flip it and I'm going to rely on people downstairs."
