As expected, Joe Mauer is once again an All-Star.

The Minnesota Twins star was officially named the American League's starting catcher on Saturday, as voted upon by fans, for the July 16 All-Star game at Citi Field.

But Mauer won't be the only member of the Twins in New York City. Closer Glen Perkins, who, like Mauer, is a Minnesota native, was named to the All-Star game roster for the first time in his career.

The Twins have not had much to celebrate in a third straight disappointing first half of the season, but Mauer and Perkins have served as consistent, positive forces for Minnesota.

Perkins has notched 20 saves and holds a 1.93 ERA in the course of 33 appearances this season (32.2 innings pitched).

This marks Mauer's sixth career All-Star nod and the fourth time he will serve as a starter. Deemed the "best catcher in baseball" by Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, Mauer has held on to a .318 batting average (.314/.393/.466), with 33 extra base hits and 30 RBIs.

There is a strong dose of players with ties to the Twins on both rosters. Former Twins David Ortiz, Jesse Crain, J.J. Hardy, Michael Cuddyer, Torii Hunter and Carlos Gomez all earned All-Star spots.
