Earlier this week, Alex Burnett was optioned to the minor leagues.

Now he's no longer a part of the organization.

The Minnesota Twins announced Friday Burnett has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Burnett's lousy spring led to him not making the 25-man roster out of camp. He posted a 7.56 ERA in 8 1/3 innings.

In 2012, Burnett -- a 12th-round pick by the Twins in 2005 -- posted a 3.52 ERA (4.03 FIP) in 71 2/3 innings with one of the highest groundball rates (52%) on the team, but he struck out only 4.52 batters per nine innings and had sporadic control.

The Twins needed to clear room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Wilkin Ramirez, who is expected to provide right-handed pop off the bench.
