The Twins on Monday announced signing two free agents to contracts. Starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey signed a two-year, $11 million deal and catcher Kurt Suzuki signed for one year and $2.75 million, according to the team.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins also outrighted outfielder Darin Mastroianni to Triple-A Rochester.

Pelfrey is expected to make the rotation. Suzuki's role isn't as clear-cut, because the veteran may split time with young catcher Josmil Pinto.

Pitchers and catchers report in less than two months.
