MINNEAPOLIS -- Dusty Hughes' second stint on the Minnesota Twins' big-league roster was a forgettable one.
The left-hander was optioned back to Triple-A Rochester on Sunday afternoon, one week after Hughes was recalled and less than 48 hours after he gave up a three-run home run that turned the tide in a meltdown loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
The move clears a roster spot for fellow left-hander Jose Mijares, who had been on the disabled list since May 15 because of a left elbow strain.
Hughes previously was optioned to Rochester on May 6, then recalled on May 22 after Glen Perkins landed on the disabled list with an oblique injury. In 15 appearances this season, Hughes has worked 12 2/3 innings and allowed 14 earned runs (9.95 ERA) with 11 strikeouts and eight walks.
