Rene Tosoni's rough season just got worse.

The Minnesota Twins announced on Friday they've outrighted Tosoni to make room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Matt Carson, who got word on Thursday his contract has been selected from Triple-A Rochester.

Tosoni, 26, was a regular for the Twins last season, hitting .203/.275/.343 with five home runs and 22 RBIs in 60 big-league games.

But he struggled badly enough early this season at Rochester that he was demoted to Double-A New Britain, where he's hitting .227/.308/.319 with two homers and eight RBIs in 45 games.

Carson, 31, traveled on Thursday to meet the Twins in Seattle, where he was expected to be in uniform for Friday's series opener against the Mariners.
