Joe Mauer's move to first base undoubtedly has implications for the future of Mauer and of the Twins.

One of those implications includes interest in free-agent catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia. A baseball source confirmed to that the Twins have expressed preliminary interest in the veteran catcher.

A separate source said to also keep an eye on free-agent A.J. Pierzynski's situation, that he'd be a good one-year stop-gap option until Josmil Pinto is ready to take over as the main option.

The Twins have a few meetings lined up with agents at the Orlando general managers meetings, which started Monday morning. So far those gatherings appear to be centered on starting pitching.
