The Twins on Friday announced a contract extension that will keep closer Glen Perkins around through at least 2017, give him a deserved raise, and still remain cost-effective.

The team-friendly deal technically only guarantees to extend the elite closer for two seasons, since he already had been signed through 2015.

The deal secures the Stillwater High School product and former Gophers ace a minimum of $22.175. Here's the breakdown:

2014: $4.025 million

2015: $4.65 million

2016: $6.3 million

2017: $6.5 million

2018: club option $6.5 million ($700,000 buyout)
