FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday that right-hander Joel Zumaya has officially been released, meaning there are now 38 players on the team's 40-man roster.

Zumaya tore his right UCL during a 13-pitch live bullpen session the second week of spring training in late-February. He is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery in Pensacola, FL on Thursday.

The Twins signed Zumaya to an $850,000 major league contract this offseason with $400,000 in guaranteed money.
