The path for Aaron Hicks just opened up even wider.
The Minnesota Twins announced Friday they have optioned outfielder Joe Benson to Triple-A Rochester.
Benson, who was competing for the starting centerfield job, hit just .154/.267/.288 with one home run and no stolen bases in 17 spring games. He is working his way back from knee surgery as well.
The Twins also optioned left-hander Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A and reassigned righty Luis Perdomo to minor league camp.
The spring roster currently stands at 38.
