Things didn't go exactly according to plan this spring for Baseball America Top-100 prospect Oswaldo Arcia, who was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday by the Minnesota Twins.
Arcia was sidelined for nearly an entire month due to a rib muscle strain, which decreased his already-slim chance to crack the 25-man roster to almost zero.
In five spring games, Arcia tallied three hits in 16 at-bats, including one double, a walk and eight strikeouts. Twins decision-makers want to see better plate discipline out of Arcia, especially on breaking pitches.
In 1,568 career minor league plate appearances, the 21-year-old Arcia owns a .314/.371/.535 batting line with 53 home runs and 103 doubles.
