CHICAGO -- Not even Francisco Liriano's no-hitter could cure the Minnesota Twins' injury woes.
Designated hitter Jim Thome (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list late Tuesday night, and Jason Repko (quad) is likely to join him in the very near future.
The team announced that shortstop Trevor Plouffe would be recalled from Class-AAA Rochester to fill Thome's spot.
Manager Ron Gardenhire hinted strongly prior to Tuesday's game in Chicago that Plouffe would have a shot to play every day at shortstop, with Alexi Casilla being moved to second base.
Plouffe was hitting .282/.344/.590 with six home runs, four doubles and 13 RBIs in 91 plate appearances prior to his promotion.
