Ricky Nolasco is headed to the disabled list.
The Twins on Tuesday placed the righthander on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow. They recalled Chris Herrmann to take Nolasco's place on the active roster.
Nolasco recently revealed a sore elbow that could in part explain why his numbers are so much worse this season than his career numbers. He had an MRI on Tuesday that revealed the strain.
Nolasco was in line to start Friday in Colorado. It's not yet clear who will make that start. Nolasco's DL stint is retroactive to Monday, so he'll be elgibile to come off Tuesday, July 22, when the Twins play the Indians at Target Field.
Herrmann has hit well in his latest stint with Triple-A Rochester. In his past 10 games with the Red Wings, the catcher/outfielder is hitting .316/.469/.605 with a home run, six doubles, 11 walks and six strikeouts.
