In moves that come as no surprise, the Minnesota Twins officially placed left-hander Scott Diamond and right-hander Anthony Swarzak on the 15-day disabled list on Friday.
Diamond underwent minor elbow surgery in December, and he has been playing catch-up ever since. Although Diamond has not and will not pitch in an official spring game, he has been throwing bullpens and pitching in side games. The Twins expect him to rejoin the rotation sometime in mid-April.
The Twins don't need a fifth starter until April 10, although Diamond may not be ready until April 12 or later.
Swarzak injured ribs in a non-baseball activity this offseason. When healthy, Swarzak is expected to rejoin the Twins' bullpen.
