After optioning catcher Steve Holm to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, the Minnesota Twins have selected the contract of Rene Rivera to fill the 25-man roster void.

The Twins only 39 men on the 40-man roster, so Rivera will now occupy the 40th spot.

Rivera, 27, hit .200/.250/.333 with one home run and three doubles in 48 plate appearances for Rochester this season. In 577 career Triple-A plate appearances, Rivera has a career .245/.285/.405 batting line with 18 home runs.

Rivera also has 159 career major league plate appearances with the Seattle Mariners from 2004-2006, with a batting line of .227/.252/.333.
