The Twins' most heralded prospect is one step closer to the major leagues.

After hitting two home runs -- his 15th and 16th of the season -- in Fort Myers' 8-6 loss to Bradenton on Sunday, third baseman Miguel Sano was promoted to Double-A New Britain, a source told 1500 ESPN's Darren Wolfson.

Sano tore through the Florida State League, hitting .330 with 16 home runs and 48 RBIs, and reports are his defense has improved from last year, despite committing his 12th error of the season on Sunday.

If Sano continues his tear at Double-A, the Twins have not been shy about promoting prospects from New Britain to the big leagues. Aaron Hicks, Joe Benson, Chris Parmelee and others all made the jump without playing a game for Triple-A Rochester.

Sano's teammate, second baseman Eddie Rosario, was also promoted to Double-A. Rosario hit his sixth home run of the season and raised his batting average to .329 on Sunday. Center fielder Angel Morales homered -- and he also was promoted to New Britain.

General manager Terry Ryan hinted strongly in an interview with 1500 ESPN on Saturday that Byron Buxton will be promoted from Cedar Rapids to Fort Myers in the very near future.
