The Twins on Tuesday announced they traded Vance Worley to Pittsburgh for an unspecified amount of cash.
He cleared waivers Friday and was not on the 40-man roster, so he could have stayed in Triple-A Rochester.
He was terrible last season, and sent packing in August. But he lost 28 pounds this offseason and had hoped to compete for a rotation spot.
He had a rotten spring, even though it was just four games. Despite the lack of top-end pitching in the organization, the Twins are fairly deep with Triple-A-caliber pitchers. It's possible they didn't feel he'd pitch for the Red Wings and simply wanted to cut ties with Worley.
He originally came to the Twins, along with Trevor May, in the trade that sent Ben Revere to the Philadelphia Phillies.
