The Minnesota Twins concluded the three-day MLB first-year player draft on Saturday by taking pitchers with 17 of their final 30 picks.

High school shortstop Nelson Molina and University of Pittsburgh right-handed pitcher Ethan Mildren went to the Twins in the 11th and 12th rounds to kick off the draft's third day.

Beginning Thursday with the selection of top pick Kohl Stewart, a right-hander out of St. Pius X high school in Houston, the Twins landed pitchers with 11 of their first 17 picks. In total, they ended up with 23 pitchers -- one fewer than their total last year.

Tanner Vavra, the son of Twins third base coach Joe Vavra, was selected by Minnesota in the 30th round. Vavra, who is blind in his right eye, recently wrapped up his senior season as a second baseman at Valparaiso.

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Halstead, who was picked up in the 26th round, was the third player the Twins drafted from Indiana University. Fellow right-hander Aaron Sleger was chosen in the fifth round on Friday and followed shortly after by eighth round pick Dustin DeMuth, the Hoosiers' starting third baseman. Indiana is currently in the Super Regional round of the NCAA baseball tournament.
