MINNEAPOLIS -- As it turned out there wasn't much of a market for a 33-year-old sinkerballer with a $3 million salary and an 8.47 ERA.
Unable to find a trade partner willing to take Jason Marquis, who was designated for assignment earlier in the week, the Twins placed the right-hander on release waivers. If he isn't claimed within 48 hours Marquis will become a free agent.
Barring an unlikely claim the Twins are on the hook for his entire salary.
