So much for Christian Ponder getting work with his top receivers this week.
Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, Bernard Berrian and Visanthe Shiancoe did not make their ancipated appearances as the Minnesota Vikings' microcamp continued on Wednesday morning at the IMG Madden Football Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Ponder, the rookie quarterback organizing the workouts, told reporters Harvin lost his phone, Shiancoe had a late conflict and Berrian missed his flight.
An IMG spokesperson said in an email that Berrian had been expected to attend but Harvin, Rice and Shiancoe never had been confirmed, only invited. All four players were on an initial list of 11 invites distributed earlier in the week.
Six players, including fellow quarterbacks Joe Webb and Rhett Bomar, joined Ponder for the first of three days of workouts on Monday. The only new addition on Wednesday morning was rookie safety Mistral Raymond, who tweeted that he arrived late because of school obligations.
Wednesday's afternoon throwing session was cancelled because of rain. It's likely Ponder would try to organize additional workouts with his new teammates if the NFL lockout continues to drag on into summer.
