As the Minnesota Vikings turn toward Matt Cassel to spark the passing game on Sunday in London, this is a good time to reflect on the last time the Vikings truly had a top-notch quarterback.
Four years ago today, the Vikings trailed the San Francisco 49ers 24-20 with 11 seconds to play in the 4th quarter at the Metrodome. Needing a touchdown to win the game, Brett Favre dropped back from the 49ers' 32-yardline, rolled out to his right, and uncorked a perfect pass to the back-right corner of the endzone and into the hands of a leaping Greg Lewis, who dragged both feet inside the boundary.
Favre was largely mediocre through the first two-and-a-half games that season, but his second-half performance against the 49ers in Week 3 -- which culminated with this touchdown to Lewis -- proved to be a springboard for the best statistical season of his career.
