EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Vikings fans may be disappointed the team didn't take Johnny Manziel, but GM Rick Spielman sounds thrilled with his latest addition.
The Vikings instead selected UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr.
"You can't coach what he has," Spielman said of Barr. "It was the same conversation last year with Cordarrelle [Patterson]."
One of the first things Spielman talked about when he got to the podium Thursday was how quickly Barr completed the cone drilles at the NFL Combine.
It got better after that, for Vikings fans.
Spielman said that after Jadeveon Clowney, "we felt [Barr] had the potential to be the next best pass rusher in this class."
That's a lofty expectation, but Spielman suggested Barr is only getting better, since he only played linebacker for two seasons at UCLA.
Spielman said Barr has great potential as a pass rusher and expects him to begin at strong-side linebacker and move around. He'll be a three-down player, Spielman said.
