The Minnesota Vikings took the final step toward getting cornerback Chris Cook back on the field for Sunday's game in Houston, while also making a move that makes it apparent defensive end Brian Robison almost certainly won't play versus the Texans.

Cook, who suffered a broken right arm in the Vikings' loss to Tampa Bay on Oct. 25, will return from the injured reserve list with the designation to return after missing six games. Cook had to sit out six weeks of practice and was eligible to be activated to play in games after eight weeks.

The Vikings also activated defensive end George Johnson from the practice squad. Johnson, in his third season from Rutgers, likely was activated because Robison suffered a Grade 3 strain of the AC joint in his right shoulder last Sunday in St. Louis.

He returned to practice Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday and was listed as questionable (50 percent chance of playing) on the injury report.

The only question with Cook now is whether he will start or be used in a subpackage role on defense. "He's far enough along that we're going to for sure play him," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Friday. "It's just a matter of how much we're going to play him."

The Vikings waived tight end Allen Reisner and guard Mark Asper to create room on the 53-man roster for Cook and Johnson.
