It's final: Joe Webb is moving to receiver.

Webb and coach Leslie Frazier said as much to the Star Tribune, confirming a decision that seemed inevitable since the Minnesota Vikings signed Matt Cassel to back up quarterback Christian Ponder.

"We had been talking about it for a while, and we made the decision that this was the way to go after we had our draft," Frazier told the newspaper.

Two weeks ago, Webb told he had been training at receiver in anticipation of a move. The 26-year-old hasn't played the position on a full-time basis since rookie minicamp in 2010.

So, Webb now enters his contract year at a new spot, competing for time behind starters Greg Jennings and Jerome Simpson, as well as rookie first-round draft pick Cordarrelle Patterson.

"Every year's a big year for me," Webb told on May 1. "I don't think about the money or the contract, things like that. I have a passion for football. Anytime I can touch the field, man, I'm thankful, because there's a lot of guys out there injured and didn't even make it to the NFL."
