Legendary Vikings coach Bud Grant apparently never has been to the Minnesota State Fair.
As part of an interview for another story, Grant made the revelation to Patrick Reusse, and it appeared in a blog post for the Star Tribune. Grant told Reusse:
"When I was growing up in Superior [Wis.], my father ran a stand at county fairs in the area. After a couple of years of that, I said to myself: 'I've seen all the Ferris wheels I'll ever need to see.' ''
It's kind of surprising, although not unbelievable. The Fair is great in many ways but clearly it's not for everyone.
In the blog, Reusse also speculated that Grant wouldn't appreciate the small talk necessary of the recognizable coach to walk around the Great Minnesota Get-Together. Reusse, who also contributes to 1500ESPN.com, said his column on Grant will appear in this Sunday's edition of the Star Tribune, if you're into that sort of thing.
Grant will make his first trip to the Fair this year. You can find Reusse, a State Fair regular, at the 1500ESPN booth, broadcasting weekdays from 3 p.m.-6 p.m.
