MANKATO, Minn. -- Two days after Greg Childs tore the patellar tendon in each of his knees, the Minnesota Vikings took the first step toward placing him on injured reserve by waiving him as injured.
All rookies and non-vested veterans must clear injury waivers before going to IR before cuts begin. So, another team could claim Childs, but that's a long shot given the nature of his injury.
To replace Childs on the roster, the Vikings re-signed rookie receiver A.J. Love, who had been waived over the weekend.
Childs, the fourth-round draft pick from Arkansas, is expected to have surgery this week.
