The Minnesota Vikings porous secondary resigned cornerback Jacob Lacey on Friday, officially announcing safety Harrison Smith has been placed on injured reserve-designated to return.

Lacey, 26, has a deep injury history that only increased with his limited time in Minnesota this offseason. Lacey suffered a dislocated thumb during OTA's in June and had minor knee surgery during training camp before his release on Aug. 19.

The Detroit Lions placed Lacey on injured reserve last season after he suffered a knee injury during a Week 15 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

It would've been tough to foresee this tumultuous of a performance from the Vikings secondary before the season, but placing cornerback Bobby Felder, who had an impressive preseason, on injured reserve with an ankle sprain has tied their hands as he's likely a better option than anyone they could find on the street.
