Matt Asiata impressed the Minnesota Vikings in training camp this past year before hip problems slowed him down. He'll get another chance to impress in the coming offseason.
The Vikings re-signed Asiata to a two-year futures contract this week, an NFL source said.
Asiata, 24, is listed as a fullback but isn't built like a lead blocker at 6-foot and 234 pounds. He showed in camp he can catch the ball out of the backfield and carry it from one-back sets, too.
An all-conference player who rushed for 1,748 yards and 24 touchdowns in his career at Utah, Asiata wasn't selected in last year's NFL Draft and got a $1,500 bonus in July from the Vikings, who waived him in the final roster reduction. He spent a week on the practice squad and then was released.
