The Minnesota Vikings are expected to get their up-close look at Cam Newton on Wednesday, when they put the Auburn quarterback through a private workout on campus.
Newton's father, Cecil, first revealed the Vikings' plans a couple of weeks ago. ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday reported details of Cam Newton's workout schedule, which also will include workouts and/or visits with Miami, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Carolina, Tennessee, Cleveland, Washington and Denver by April 18.
The Heisman Trophy winner is roundly projected as a first-round pick, but multiple red flags have opinions split on whether he's worthy of being a top-10 selection in next month's NFL Draft. The Vikings own the No. 12 overall pick.
Meanwhile, TCU quarterback Andy Dalton told NFL Network he will visit the Vikings but didn't list them among the six teams for whom he'll work out. It was previously was reported the Vikings planned to work out Dalton privately.
The Vikings already have had dinner with Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert -- a likely top-10 pick in whom they appear highly interested -- following his campus workout and reportedly worked out Washington's Jake Locker. Arkansas' Ryan Mallett reportedly is scheduled for a visit, and it's likely the Vikings will spend time with other quarterbacks as well before the draft begins on April 28.
