MANKATO, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings announced they have waived tight end AC Leonard.

Leonard, 22, was one of a host of undrafted free agents the Vikings invited to training camp, but he had missed about a week of practice from a head injury that coach Mike Zimmer wouldn't call a concussion. He was undergoing tests as recent as Tuesday before being released.

He was waived without an injury designation, meaning Leonard likely passed medical tests but the team wanted to move on.

Leonard figured to be in the running for Kyle Rudolph's backup after Chase Ford showed up to camp with a broken foot. That spot is still wide open as Rhett Ellison, Mike Higgins and Allen Reisner vie for the role. By waiving Leonard, the team also opens up a spot on the 90-man roster for a potential free agency pickup.
