The Minnesota Wild trimmed the training camp roster to 28 players on Sunday by announcing 17 cuts.

The club reassigned forwards Kris Foucault, David McIntyre, Carson McMillan, Jarod Palmer and Chad Rau, along with Defesemen Tyler Cuma and Chay Genoway and goalies Matt Hackett and Darcy Kuemper to their AHL affiliate, the Houston Aeros.

Forwards Jon DiSalvatore, Warren Peters, Jed Ortmeyer and Jeff Taffe were placed on waivers, along with defeseman Jeff Penner and goalie Dennis Endras. If they clear, the Wild would likely reassign those players to Houston on Tuesday.

Defensemen Jordan Hendry and Kris Fredheim were released from their tryout agreements.

The Wild must trim the roster to 23 before opening night, but four injured players leave room for some leeway -- Mike Lundin, Drew Bagnall, Cody Almond and Matt Kassian.
