The Minnesota Wild will be without a key piece of their defensive lines for the next several weeks after Jared Spurgeon was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Spurgeon's ailment has been labeled a "lower body injury," which spawned from a shot he blocked Thursday against Buffalo.
The blow to the Wild's roster comes only days after they finally put an end to a six-game losing slide with a 4-1 defeat of the Sabres.
Forward Brett Bulmer, the Wild's 2010 second round draft pick, was recalled again from the AHL's Iowa Wild to fill Spurgeon's spot. Bulmer has three assists in 13 career NHL games.
With the Washington Capitals in town Saturday, the Wild will attempt to prove Thursday wasn't just a short reprieve from their recent losing ways.
