The Minnesota Wild have relied on Darcy Kuemper to guard the net in five of the past seven games to the tune of a 4-1 record. They'll continue with the hot hand as goalies Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding continue to recover from ailments.
The Wild recalled Johan Gustafsson on Monday to backup Kuemper at the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, according to Michael Russo of the Star Tribune. Coach Mike Yeo told reporters that Backstrom should be back at practice on Wednesday.
Kuemper's campaign began on Jan. 7 at Los Angeles in a 2-1 shutout win as Backstrom was forced to sit after he received a cortisone shot the day before for the same injury, per Russo.
Harding practiced all last week, but sat out on Monday. He's missed nine straight games since receiving a 'minor adjustment' to his multiple sclerosis treatment.
The Wild also recalled defenseman Jonathon Blum from the Iowa Wild.
