The Wild traded Chad Rau to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for right winger Curt Gogol, the team announced Wednesday.
Gogol is 22 and plays for the Sharks' American Hockey League affiliate. In 40 games, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound winger has 149 penalty minutes and just four points. He has not played a game in the NHL.
Rau played nine games for the Wild in 2011-12. He played 33 games for the Iowa Wild this season.
Rau, 27, originally was a seventh-round draft choice in 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He's from Eden Prairie, and his younger brother, Kyle, is a forward for the Gophers.
The NHL will lock rosters over the Olympic Break beginning 2 p.m. Friday.
Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill also announced the team acquired forward Riley Brace from San Jose's AHL affiliate. He currently plays for the Ontario Reign, of the ECHL, where he will remain, according to the Iowa Wild.
