The Minnesota Wild announced the signing of Christian Folin to a two-year, entry-level contract on Monday. Folin is expected to join the club on their current road trip in Chicago.
Folin, 23, is a defenseman out of the University of Massachusets-Lowell, who just lost to Boston College in the NCAA Northeast Regional Final. Folin, a 6-3, 210-pound Sweden native, led the River Hawks' defense with 20 points on the way to UMass-Lowell's Hockey East conference tournament champmionship.
"Christian is a big, mobile defenseman who has a heavy shot and moves the puck well," Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr said in a release. "He plays a very mature game that we feel should allow him transition to the NHL very quickly. We're very excited to have Christian join the Wild and further add to our group of emerging young players."
Before college, Folin spent two seasons in the Tier II North American Hockey League with the Bruins of Austin, Minn.
