According to multiple reports from London, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder did not practice early Friday and did not have his helmet with him.
Backup quarterback Matt Cassel would make his first start as a member of the Vikings against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday if Ponder can't go from an apparent rib injury suffered in a loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Ponder not practicing this morning, it appears. Didn't have his helmet with him. Looks like Cassel starts, but more after practice. #Vikings— Ben Goessling (@GoesslingESPN) September 27, 2013
We'll hear more after Friday's practice, but it appears Cassel may start.
Both Ponder and Cassel are expected to speak to reporters after practice.— chipscoggins (@chipscoggins) September 27, 2013
Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley coached the Kansas City Chiefs from 2009 to 2011. Cassel was the Chiefs' starting quarterback from 2009 to 2012 before signing with the Vikings this offseason.
