With the news that Twins manager Ron Gardenhire's contract has been extended, the next consideration was his coaching staff.

They've all been invited back, too.

"His coaches have been invited to come back," General Manager Terry Ryan said Monday at a press conference. "I have not finalized that quite yet, but I would anticipate that they would accept that invitation."

The staff will be offered one-year contracts, according to Twins President Dave St. Peter.

They'll also add a seventh coach to the staff.

Major League rules allow for seven coaches on a staff, and with six in the fold, the Twins add one and reorganize the staff's roles, Ryan told 1500 ESPN in a phone interview Monday.

"Terry and I will review things on the roles that we have, just like last year," Gardenhire said at the press conference. "Depending on who we bring up here for our seventh coach, if we do that, we'll definitely define new roles and make sure we try to get people in the right spot."

Some wondered if, following three seasons of more than 95 losses, there would be a shakeup of the Major League coaching staff, even if Gardenhire returned. But true to form, the Twins, one of the most loyal organizations in baseball, have offered to keep the coaching staff intact.

"Very partial to my staff, I've got their back," Gardenhire said. "They worked their tails off this year. We were a little short on talent but our staff worked their tails off, they got after it. It is a positive group. We made some changes last year. It's a real positive group."

"My staff does a very good job. ... These are a great bunch of guys put together and I hope they all agree to come back."
