The Vikings have signed a familiar name at linebacker, but it will be an uphill battle to crack the roster.

The team announced Tuesday that it has signed former Gophers linebacker Simoni Lawrence.

Lawrence went undrafted in the 2010 NFL draft, and signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Rams. He bounced around several teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bear and Tampa Bay Bucaneers, but never has taken a regular-season snap.

He played the 2013 season in the Canadian Football League for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Vikings on Friday released linebacker Erin Henderson, following two drunk driving arrests in a six-week span.
