The Twins are about to get a close look at an old friend. Former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has been tabbed the next manager of the Detroit Tigers, according to multiple reports, including one from Ken Rosenthal.
“Gardy,” as he’s known around Minnesota and around baseball, managed the Twins for 13 seasons. According to Rosenthal’s report, Gardenhire is yet to sign a contract.
Gardenhire is no doubt one of the most experienced candidates out there, and he apparently stood out from a list of candidates that reportedly included at least 9 other names, according to The Athletic.
Gardenhire also interviewed for the vacant Red Sox job, according to multiple reports. He spent this season as the bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who were ousted in the Division Series by the Dodgers.
The Tigers are widely considered to be in rebuilding mode.
