Previous Story Zulgad: Vikings’ offensive coordinator making his case to get a head coaching job Next Story Zimmer announces Case Keenum will start vs. Rams

When is the best possible return date for Teddy Bridgewater?

If you read between the lines, Teddy Bridgewater’s return appears inevitable.

On Sunday following the Minnesota Vikings’ win over Washington, head coach Mike Zimmer said, “I’ve got a plan,” for the quarterback situation. If that plan was to start Case Keenum for the rest of the year, he probably wouldn’t need to call it a plan.

Zimmer announced on Wednesday that Keenum will start this week.

It’s always possible that Keenum could ride his “hot streak” through the rest of the season and into the playoffs, but it seems unlikely that he’d continue to play at a level so high that Zimmer would keep his franchise quarterback on the bench.

Of course, Bridgewater will have to have enough practice time to feel comfortable operating the offense and prove to the coaches and medical staff that his knee can handle movements inside and outside the pocket.

If he checks off those boxes, when could he return? Let’s have a look at the possibilities…

Mid-game against the Rams

The Vikings’ schedule is about to get tougher. The Rams will be only the third team that Case Keenum has faced that currently has a winning record and the others were Detroit and Green Bay – who lost its superstar quarterback to injury in the first quarter at US Bank Stadium. Los Angeles has the NFL’s third best defense in points allowed and has scored more points per game than any other team in the NFL, so we might see this scenario tested sooner than later.

The benefit to Bridgewater coming off the bench is that he won’t have too much time to think about his surgically-repaired knee. There also might be less pressure if the Vikings are down two or three scores. The Vikings would be hoping for a Bridgewater-led comeback, but if he showed some rust and struggled, it would be in a situation where the game was already lost and set him up to feel more confident going into the next week.

The blowout scenario is also possible. If the Vikings headed into the fourth quarter with a 21 point lead, they could let Bridgewater play 15 minutes to get his feet underneath him. However, if they’re up 21 points, its unlikely Keenum is coming out any time soon.

How many points would they have to be trailing? What would Keenum’s stat line have to look like? The mid-game switch has some complications.

Thanksgiving Day at Detroit

Starting on the road might take the pressure off Bridgewater of playing in front of his home crowd. It would also give the Vikings a slight advantage on the Lions. If Bridgewater spent some of this week focusing on next Thursday’s opponent, he could get a head start that won’t be afforded to Detroit’s side.

The Lions’ defense is improved, but it isn’t as imposing as Los Angeles’s group. Detroit is 18th in sacks and 20th in Adjusted Yards Per Attempt.

There is both upside and downside to the Vikings’ matchup with Detroit being the biggest game of the year. The Vikings should want their more talented quarterback to play in their biggest game, but winning a huge division game is also a big ask for a player who hasn’t been in the lineup since August 2016.

Week 17 vs. Chicago

If Keenum has played exceptionally well and Vikings are very securely in a playoff spot by Week 17, the only reason not to start Bridgewater would be fear of fans and media calling for him to be under center in the playoffs. Otherwise it would be similar to Dallas giving Tony Romo one more turn as the Cowboys’ QB last season, though the job had already been given to Dak Prescott.

A zero-pressure Week 17 game would give Bridgewater an opportunity to show the Vikings that he’s back to 100 percent. However, if the Vikings have received such great QB play from Keenum to reach that point, then Bridgewater may be looking for another place to play in 2018. That’s a tough one to picture because Zimmer has said in the past that he wants Bridgewater as his long-term quarterback.

Somewhere in between

Zimmer saying he has a plan indicates that he has a date in mind for Bridgewater’s return. But if Keenum beats the Rams, it may turn into a week-by-week situation in which Zimmer waits for Keenum to lose before handing the ball over to Bridgewater. This would be the toughest to manage because there are so many variables. What if Keenum plays well but they lose? What if he plays poorly and they win?

One thing we do know: The Vikings’ quarterback situation will be at the top if the NFL’s storylines for the foreseeable future.

  • brian199511

The date is less important than the hope he is a better QB now than before the injury, perhaps the worse injury an athlete can suffer. I’m not betting on it.

No need to hurry back to a qb who ran the 31st ranked passing offense in his best year.

      • Andrew Stead

Right, because before this year CK was Manning/Brady? Do you think CK would have made those offences better? This is a very good roster and the CK wins came against BAL, CLE, CHI, TB, DC and a 12-less GB.

Of course there is risk–how Teddy will perform is an unknown. But for the franchise going forward, that’s pretty key information to have, no? The suggestion below of a QB battle in camp is about 30 years too late. The 2018 roster is going to have one qb making starter money (or, I suppose, it’s possible there is a new 1st rd rookie QB). That’s the guy who is going to start in 2018. There is no chance more than 1 of Teddy, CK and Bradford are on the roster next year.

CK’s done a great job, but it looks a lot like McClown’s performance in Chicago in 2013. Did that indicate a career back-up had suddenly become a starter?

        • Ken Shalek

I don’t think any of the 3 QB’s are worth starting money going forward. Vikings starter next year is not on team yet. I would offer Teddy a backup contract. Vikings have enough medical red flags with weak arms at QB .

          • Chris

Wrong! Bridgewater has great potential if he is healthy, he’s in the same category as Russell Wilson! not a strong arm, but smart and savy!

          • Linda Walden

Ah, I wouldn’t diss that arm strength just yet. Try putting picks of Teddy as a college athlete ,rookie and a pro side by side and look at the difference. That guy liked like a kid with a baby face in the draft, Not now, and that body is filling out, and look at the two qbs together, then look at Bradford and Teddy, some guys don’t gain their full size at 21, and this one put on a heck of a lot of size in college. One other curious thing, why are the Vikes so nervous about having Olsen in the announcers booth? And as for smart, 3 years in highschool, and three in college. Diploma and degree. Zimm and Spielman are playing poker!

          • Andrew Stead

Worth isn’t the same thing as what the market will provide. Scarcity plays in a QB’s favour, and they and their agents know this. How bad will a QB have to be to take less than Glennon got for this year?

        • Chris

Point is, he is winning! why rock the boat! Yeah, not great teams but doesn’t change the fact that football in the pros is week to week! the poorest team can end up beating the best one!! Washington was no slouch and he had the best performance against them than any other QB this year!! he has earned the right to play poorly in at LEAST 2 games before being pined!!

          • Andrew Stead

“why rock the boat” = “why try to improve”. If that’s your mantra, North America would be populated solely by indigenous folks. I prefer to keep getting better. I don’t want 10 wins, a 4th seed and a bad loss in the divisional round. I want to try and win the game in February.

Bradford and CK have both had career games in this year’s offence. Either that’s a fluke, or this offence is damned good. It’s the team that’s winning–riddle me this: what would Ponder’s record have been against TB, CHI, BAL, CLE, DC and a 12-less GB? Ponder “won” a division crown. Where was he two years later? Where do you think CK will be in two years?

  • Erik Means

“The Rams will be only the third team that Case Keenum has faced that currently has a winning record and the others were Detroit and Green Bay”… you seem to have forgotten the 7-2 Steelers here, Judd.

    • SM

Yes, the Case kool aid drinkers keep overlooking his results against winning records. A long FG, TJ TFL, BRob deflection, and botched onside kick saved Case from loss at Wash. Again the team bailed him out.

My vote is Teddy vs. Lions.

      • Erik Means

I can appreciate that this must be a difficult decision for Zim, and I completely disagree with all those who say “this is a no-brainer — the Vikings must stick with Case because he has the hot hand”. I’m overjoyed to see Case playing far above expectations and getting the job done, and I have no problem if he gets the nod on Sunday. But in my book it’s not a no-brainer and I do want to see what Teddy can do, hopefully soon. But ultimately, I trust Zimmer and Shurmur to do the right thing.

      • Drediock

The only one drinking kool aid seems to be you.
Keep in mind that in 2015. Teddy was ranked as the 22nd best QB in the league.
Fro the record. That puts him damn near in the bottom third.
Everyone is going by what the fantasy of what Teddy might be in the future rather then the reality of what he was

        • Erik Means

Opinions vary on this, clearly, but from where I’m looking Teddy was much better than his stats showed. He played behind a Swiss cheese of an O-line and in a run-first scheme. In my book, he simply showed better command of the offense, more precision, and significantly higher upside than we see from Case. But those of us on the outside looking in can only guess whether he still has the same (or similar) abilities and upside after 15 months of rehab,

          • Gordon Guffey

That OL opened holes for AP to rush for nearly 1500 yards so they could have been anywhere near what Bradford played behind in 2016 ~ Yes the OL has improved and I look for them to keep getting better ~ Spielman and Zimmer did a dang fine job of getting the kind of players needed to fit Shurmur blocking scheme ~ When Norv was with the Vikings he was in control of the offense and he had more than a lot of push when it came to drafting player and few of them have worked out ~ I can only hope Treadwell isn’t one of them that doesn’t ~ And the RB’s are near equal if you include Cooks stats ~ The TE unit is about the same ~ And while Thielen has really came on Teddy had Mike Wallace who if you look at his stats the year before and they year after it makes up for Thielen improvement ~ Diggs is Diggs and he has missed games in both of Teddy’s and Case’s first year working with him ~

The only thing I can say is I believe if Teddy is that much better than Case I believe Zimmer and Shurmur will make the call for Teddy to start with Spielman watching them closely ~ I really dont believe they will take chances with their jobs by playing a player some say was Zimmer’s pick ~ Teddy was never Zimmer’s pick ~ Does he love the kid ~ Yes ~ We all love the young man ~ As reported here and elsewhere it was Norv and his son Scott who scouted and pushed for the drafting of Bridgewater over Carr ~ And who could blame Spielman and Zimmer ~ Norv was thought of as a great offensive mind when he came to the Vikings ~ And who knows what will happen next year ~

          • 1300 of those yards came against teams under .500.

          • Gordon Guffey

How many of Teddy’s yard came against bad teams ~ ??? I’m not going to look it up so feel free to do so ~ I only care about wins this year ~ The haters will be hater and the team fans want care only about wins and only that if Teddy is give the job he plays better ((( not equal to ))) Case ~ Its that simple ~

          • Theguds

Okay a “swiss cheese oline” is what bradford had to deal with last year. Teddy had a much better situation in that regard and Bradford would’ve had a 4000 yard season had he played 16 games. Opinions shouldn’t vary on this based on his performance. And its so damn frustrating because we have a team that can go far in playoffs if they just had a LEGITIMATE franchise QB. Instead fans like yourself want waste time away seeing if Teddy’s the guy. HE’S NOT!! You have to strike while the iron is hot, that is, before this roster turns over which can happen fairly quickly in the NFL. Also, the reason they had a run first scheme is because they couldn’t throw the ball effectively in large part due to Teddy. In 2009 AP 1500 yards and Favre had 4000+, so the two can coexist.

          • Erik Means

Thank you for sharing your inside knowledge on this matter. I can understand your immense frustration given that there are silly fans like me and… hmm… Mike Zimmer, who obviously have a misguided and inflated opinion of young master Bridgewater, and we continue to waste time wondering whether Teddy is the guy. Good to know that you have the answers, and generous of you to clear this up for us.

          • Theguds

Yes you fans who would still be pounding the Teddy drum if Bradford was healthy and had continued his week one performance.

I possess no inside knowledge or expertise. It’s just a simple observation and my only experience has been from just watching a lot of good quarterbacks play. If it were Andrew Luck we were talking about then this decision would actually be a difficult one. But Teddy is no Luck and he will never be in my opinion. If people would quit blowing smoke up his ass and maybe try to be a little more critical of him maybe he could use that as a source of motivation.

Your point about Zimmer is an interesting one and I can’t figure how he thinks TB is our franchise QB. All I can think of is he is a defensive minded coach who maybe thinks all he needs is a game manager style QB. I also think it’s possible he isn’t totally revealing his true thoughts on the matter and he realizes that this is the best he’s going get from Spielman and he if Teddy is to have any success he has to have his back. But I will say this I’ve heard Zimmer praise his character more than I’ve heard him praise is abilities as a QB.

          • Erik Means

You say you can’t figure out how Zim thinks TB is our franchise QB, and in the next breath you rationalize that he’s a defensive minded coach. In other words, you’re better qualified to pass judgement? Wow. Pretty bold.

You also insightfully reveal that I am among those who would be ‘pounding the Teddy drum if Bradford was healthy’. And you base that assertion on… what? You read my horoscope? (I thought Sam was quality last year, and I was obviously all the more enamoured after his lights-out game Week 1.)

I’m not saying Teddy is definitely our QB of the future, but neither you nor I (nor anybody else) know either way. I like Case, but I liked what I saw in Teddy more. That’s not blowing any smoke in any direction. And, thank the high heavens, it ain’t my call or yours, it’s down to a couple very capable and experienced coaches – Zimmer and Shumur – and I have faith in their assessments.

As it now turns out, they predictably chose to stick with Case, and I’m plenty happy with that and I look forward to another win on Sunday. I’m sure coach Zimmer will be enormously relieved to know that you support his decision (in spite of him being just a defense guy).

        • Ken Shalek

Teddy’s a backup, people are using emotions instead of brains. I like Teddy, nice player but he’s a medical red flag forever now. Backup would be nice.

        • SM

Funny pal. People keep comparing 2017 to 2015. Case had crap results in prior roles. Maybe you forget stack the box against AP and stale offensive game planning.

NO one knows what TB is capable of on this greatly improved scheme and OL, and the point is to put him in there and see. Then decide if that’s a good option for future or get someone else. I never said try fantasy football.

Results matter. Case hasn’t beat anyone of note to now. Short leash time.

If you and others think Case is a first string starter of the future, you’re sleep walking AND drinking spiked kool aid.

      • Gordon Guffey

And you are going to set behind your keyboard and try and tell us that the defense never won a game for Teddy ~ That they didn’t make plays while he was starting ~ You need to sign up for this so you can go back and watch some of Teddy’s games ~

        https://gamepass.nfl.com/packages?team=min&campaign=sp-cl-gd-af-pj-1502370&affiliateId=73800&clickId=2133955310&affiliateCustomId=&affiliateCustomUrl=

Or look up Mike Wallace’s stats the year before and the year after playing with Teddy as his starting QB in what was Teddy’s best year ~

        http://www.nfl.com/player/mikewallace/2507763/profile

The proof is out there if anyone cares to look for it ~ Oh some will say he was playing in Norv’s version of Chilly KAO and I would agree ~ However Teddy missed as many open WR’s as Case has this year ~ Some people want to make him out to be the next Rogers or Brees and he has shown nothing other than he might be the next Case Keenum in the next 3 years ~

Thats why I have been saying the Vikings need to look for another QB in the 2018 draft and keep Case or Teddy for 2018 while that rookie sets and learns and if something happens and Teddyor Case catches fire I promise that no one here will b!tching about Teddy ~ But lord have mercy if Case was to catch fire ~

        • Hauvster

Agreed. Teddy was never that good. He isnt anything special under center. His stats show him as mediocre. His delivery is slow, his passes hang, and he is slow to check down, with very little touch. After 15 months of not playing, you really think he has gotten BETTER at those things? I suspect it has regressed.

          • Theguds

            Thank you!

No need to suspect, just wait for coach announcement and watch the game. Let’s see.

By the way his teammates said his delivery is quicker and throws stronger.

And once again, better OL, better OC this year and better receiver group.

      • Theguds

“Case kool aid drinkers”haha…that is hilarious! Teddy has NEVER looked as good as Case and Case is maybe a second tier starter in this league. Teddy supporters amaze me, its as if they have never seen a good QB play before.

        • Ken Shalek

It’s shocking!. I think it’s because he’s a good guy who had a horrible injury, Don’t confuse this people. All our QB’s are second tier or medical red flags. Perspective is gone. Lol

        • SM

Put TB and see. Like you said, case is a backup level qb.

Results matter. See what the guy can do or let him go FA.

Why not spend third first round pick in five years for a QB. Sure, Piece of cake. Haha. No, This team is built to win now.

And you great analysts keep comparing a tired offensive 2015 scheme to this greatly improved situation. TWO qbs with career games in this offense.

          Boring….

          • Theguds

What’s boring is watching Teddy Bridgewater play Quaterback….I think you need to open up your eyes

          • SM

Stale offensive game planning?? Or maybe limited playbook for a not so talented QB?

          • SM

Right pal, Norv was not any better in 2016 with Sam.

Go back to sleep, nite nite.

          • Theguds

Oh wait Norm…did we not lose both our starting left and right tackles? Did we not have zero protection? That didn’t have an effect on play calling did it?

          • SM

Right doofus, 2015 offense plan as follows was damn innovative.

            1st dn Run AP
            2nd dn. Run AP
3rd dn Throw long, and QB run for life if needed.
            4th dn punt/try FG

            Norv was voluntold to resign.

            Back to your crayons.

          • Theguds

Hey genius I agree I hated that shitty fucking ass fuck play calling . Limited playbook for a limited QB, or more nicely put a developing QB. But we’ve seen all we need to see from TB to make an evaluation. With that line in 2015 Norv would have absolutely opened it more if SB was starting. Now go back to your abstruse thoughts and trying to solve the Goldbach conjecture. When you fail maybe one day you’ll come down off that the high horse of yours

          • SM

Blaming the QB is a totally vacuous conclusion devoid of original thoughts and merit.

And by the way, clown, developing players is what good coaches do. TWaynes, Barr, and yes, TB.

TWO QBs with career games in the current scheme begs the question of what is the upside of their former starter, reaching incontrovertible conclusions with similar circumstances.

Best to know this key assessment before season’s end and position the GM to make best decision with the next 1st round pick.

Yes dweeb, this is abstruse to you, an obtuse dullard playing admirably the role of inept foil.

            Bravo to you, jester!
            Boring.

          • Theguds

Okay Shakespeare. You realize this is a sports blog right? You’re good with words but your analytical skills are lacking. You should have probably taken some advanced math and science courses in college. Above all, you would come to realize the importance of time.

Teddy has had almost two years to prove himself. And he rarely looked like Case Keenum. On his pro-day he couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn and that’s without a defense. There are no other original thoughts to be had “lamer”(get a new word dinkes), we have one deficiency on this team, and that deficiency resides at the QB position.

The GM should already know that he’s looking for QB in this next draft and if one isn’t there then the next and the next. Meanwhile, it’s unfortunate but we have to go get a retread. How many QBs has this GM and the one before him and the one before him missed on? Its gotten be ridiculous.

As for Teddy… What if we do let him go? Do you really think he’s going to be the next Rodgers or even Alex Smith or Andy Dalton for that matter.

At any rate Dinkes… time will tell.

          • SM

Weenie brain, you make yourself look very stupid with wild assumptions. There are people who are good at multiple things, flatulence mouth.

And the vikes don’t know what they have in TB in 2017 in real games. It ain’t only about Case now. It’s about next year.

I have analytical skills, work and also in my university education, happy to inform you Mr. bovine brain.

Babble to yourself now junior. We’re done here.

          • Theguds

Faux wit extraordinaire you’re incapable of being done. Your whole diatribe is a bore, filled with really lame childlike insults. How old are you? Your propensity to insult makes you classless and goes above and beyond my few profane words. And whats even more hysterical is that you do it behind a computer screen. Thank you and good night and good luck buddy

      • Drediock

I think the Vikes can beat the Lions regardless of who the QB is.
        Yes. even in their house

    • Gordon Guffey

You would be correct Erik and Case didn’t know he was starting until 90 mins. before that game ~ Also Bradford got most of the work the week leading up to that game ~ I think that plays into them not bring up that game ~

“Franchise qb”? Based on how high he was drafted? He is just a former starter imo. Hope he ca develop into a franchise qb.

And someday it would be nice to have one even if it is not a top 5 guy. Teddy should get a chance to complete for the starting job next year, and hopefully he can develop into a franchise guy if he wins the job.

  • SM

Is this guy on drugs??? 21 point lead on LAR? I think he writes idiot things on purpose to get a reaction.

    • Drediock

      Possible.
Look at their schedule. Who have they beaten?

      • SM

Yea, I know they’re in the wimp west. I would think the more likely scenario is 28-24 Vikes win.
        Sans Case blunders of course.

But after the Skins game result, maybe it could be a shootout.

        • Drediock

Should be a telling game for both Teams

    • Gordon Guffey

You are so right on this SM ~ Zimmer better have the defense fine tuned this week ~ There were to many missed arm tackles and blown coverage last week and the Redskins were down a very good TE and one of their best WR’s if I remember right ~

    • DukieBrownJunior .

      Your right, more like 28

      • SM

That’s why they play the game. Monday we’ll see how smart you are. They gave up 30+ to 9ers and cowpies, but I don’t know what injuries they had. More recent games indicate tighter D.

    • Theguds

Ya you and him have something in common

  • Pete

In other words, you have no clue either.

  • GuyatComputer

    Over-analyze much?

  • Drediock

Rationally speaking. Unless Keenum has a complete breakdown. It would be far better to ease Teddy into the mix rather then just throw him out to the wolves from the get go.

    • Gordon Guffey

How does one do that without messing with Case psychie ((( <<< over look my spelling please LOL )))

If Case knows you are cutting his feet out from under him after working his tail off for his team and teammates then you could be messing with the while season ~ And if it does mess with his psychie ((( maybe it doesn't ))) and Teddy is rusty and the Vikings lose 2 or 3 games because one is crashing and the other is rusty and the Vikings end up losing their lead in the NFCN and maybe lose the NFCN then what ~ Who loses their job over such a bad move ~ ??? What happens if they lose out on a bye in the playoffs ~ ??? Or what happens if they lose in the first round of the playoffs ~ ??? There is no sure move to be made as far as us fans or reporters know ~

I dont know and thats why I'm asking ~ To much can be lose if this is not handled right ~

      • Erik Means

You’re right about these points, and I have no doubt that Zimmer is painfully aware of all the risks and pitfalls. It has to be a bigger risk for him to give the job to Teddy now. If that proves to be a bad move, he looks bad. Really bad. If he sticks with Case, who then performs poorly, there will be few questions asked when he shifts to Teddy.
By the same token, if he gives the job to Teddy vs the Rams (which I do not expect him to do), it must mean that he is overwhelmingly confident that Teddy is better at this point than Case.
Ultimately, I want a win on Sunday, and I’m counting on Zim and the QB du jour to take us to the promised land.

        • Gordon Guffey

          I couldn’t agree more ~ !!!!

      • Drediock

One one hand I think its pretty obvious Case understands the situation. and if we are up by 3 scores he also knows that we need to know what we have in Bridgewater. At some point we need to see him in there for a few series just to gauge where Teddy is in his development.
On another hand (cause there is 3 here) If Case has a game where nothing is going right. He also understands why he or any other QB for that matter might be pulled for that. In that scenareo. Teddy finishes out the game and then the coaches can evaluate both at the same time to see not only where Teddy is. But if he at that time is truly the better option
On the Third hand. And everyone seems to forget this. Zimmer is a Disciple of Parcells.
As a resident of NJ I’ve seen more then my fair share of Parcels. Parcels loved mind games to both players and the media (the reason for the non committal answers tot he media and it wouldnt be beneath him to use the situation to push the buttons of both Teddy and Case to drive both QBs to perform better

    • SM

Home game with the bears or against the bungals are good options.

  • Gordon Guffey

When the coaches say so ~ If Teddy is much better than Case and when he is Zimmer and Shurmur will make the change ~ But not until he is better than Case ~ Not equal to Case but better ~

Now if the Vikings defense falls on their face and they Rams are just running up the score then they might take a look see sooner and I have no doubt there will be some that will be happy if it played out that way ~ They dont care about wins and loses ~ But the Vikings are riding a 5 game winning streak and if Zimmer makes a change before Teddy is the better QB ((( and we will all see it for ourselves with the play on the field ))) and the season fall all to heck Zimmers job might be in danger and Shurmur might take him place in 2018 ~ Yes this is that serious ~ If Zimmer makes the switch and the Vikings lose 2 or 3 games as Teddy knocks off the rust I believe Zimmer is still in danger ~

Now if Teddy is hitting every pass he throws in practice and they believe he is ready and he is out shining Case then is the time to make the move if Case is losing games ~

Either way if they make the move I dont believe everyone here will get behind Teddy and hope he plays lights out ~ I know I haven’t seen any haters other than those who are hating on Case and you know who you are ~ Coller and Judd are among them most of the time ~ The rest of us just want the best 22 starters on the field ~ To use we want wins and thats all that matters to use ~ Now if someone is wanting to play a favorite player of his and he isn’t the best player at that position then we are going to want blood ~ And rightfully so ~ Its really that simple ~

That being said I believe Spielman~Zimmer~Shurmur will make the right call ~ And thats the end of the story IMHO ~

  • CT Scanner Dude

The only reason that it is a storyline is the media jackels that just keep repeating the same story over and over and over and etc. It would be foolish to make a switch to a person who only had 1 and a half legs a year ago.

I think Zimm will ride case until he has a couple bad outings. His plan is probably to get Bridgewater some snaps in mop up duty in games that are out of hand one way or another. Can’t bench case when Detroit was his only legitimate loss so far. I don’t count Pitt as that was a game time decision. Case wins this weekend, vikes need to start contract talks with the guy. Next season I can see case, Bridgewater, and sloter as our QBs.let them battle for the starting job.

    • Gordon Guffey

Well said and in much fewer word than me ~ So David can I start sending you my posts and let you edit them ~ LOL ~ Smiley Face 🙂

      • David Prestin

Just don’t put all your thoughts in one post….plenty of replies to reply to here. More people read the short posts.

    • SM

Agreed but I think the stakes are high enough that the hook is one bad outing.

I like those three for QB too. But Case will be asking big money, and I don’t think the Vikes will pay it. Some idiot team will offer him $20m per year.

Case has hit his big payday, and that’s the real reason he is happy, no matter the outcome.

      • Gordon Guffey

While I think it will take two bad game before a switch will be made I can not disagree with anything you said SM ~ its very possible your right ~ I have nothing to go on but a gut feeling because I have real clue how good Teddy is really looking in practice ~ And my gut feeling have never changed the minds of any Vikings HC going back to 1969 ~ That means I have do nothing to effect what the Vikings do ~ Who would have thunk that possible ~ LOL ~

I know we all like to debate though but I am going to cut back ~ Nothing gained and nothing is going to stop Coller or Judd from making posts like this to get us all going and I seem to fall for it every time ~ So in the future you catch me over debating one of the numb nut topics please remind me of this post ~ Smily Face 🙂

The coaches are going to do what they feel is best and in the end I’m going to be pulling for whoever is the starting QB ~ The last thing I might add is I read somewhere that Bradford can come off IR if he heals enough to were he could be a very valuable backup heading into the playoffs ~ I never thought I would hear Bradford and Vikings again unless he was starting against them ~ WOW and I thought I was over that and here it might come again ~

        • SM

Wow, Sam for postseason and not practice for about three months! Lots of debate about that one! Haha

Thanks for the blast to the past. Kapp jump passes and Osborne one yard leap against Merlin and these same LAR. Loved Grant and those later wild games with Fran.

  • linus

If Zimmer has a “plan” for Bridgewater’s return, I doubt that “plan” includes trailing (or leading) the Rams by three scores in the second half.

  • Da Fredster

You basically named every remaining game of the year. I thought the point of the article was to name the best possible return date.

  • Ken Shalek

Next season unless Case implodes or gets hurt. Do you have money on his starting date?. I think that’s your problem with this. Degenerate gambler.

    • Gordon Guffey

Thats a bet I would no take ~ But if I was a betting man I would bet that Spielman~Zimmer~Shurmur are being keep up to date by the scouts on all the young QB who might come out in the 2018 draft ~ While they will surely keep Teddy cause Case is going to get paid and paid well by some QB hunger team like the Browns ~ Well unless he implodes or gets hurt ~ Bradford too will be gone unless he is willing to take a backup roll ~ Yeah like thats going to happen ~ So I think its safe to say Teddy will most likely be the starter unless he gets injured or is no where near the player he was ~ Some are very high on Kyle Sloter and the Vikings are paying him like a 3rd or 4th round pick depending on who you ask ~ I guess the only sure this is there is no sure thing at QB for the Vikings in 2018 ~ Sad ~ Very sad indeed ~ Pricey FA maybe ~ ???

      • Drediock

If in a strictly hypothetical. If teddy cant go. Or proves he cant make it for whatever reason. Bradford is sure to be someplace else. Case may very well to seek his fortunes and a guaranteed starting job elsewhere.
I’ve heard it suggested and it seems entirely plausible We might be looking at Kirk Cousins

  • Gordon Guffey

For the Case haters here this is what we know to be facts ~
What we know for sure this year is that Case went throw OTA’s and training camp and preseason and he has started 7 games ~

His two loses coming vs the Lions where the Vikings had 3 fumbles that cost them that game and the Steelers where Bradford got most of the work the week leading up to that game and Case was made aware that he was starting 90 mins. before the game ~

So I guess we can kind of over look timing issues with his WRTERBin that game in the Steelers game ~ I mean if Case got hurt this week we would do the same thing if Teddy was starting this week and needed to adjust going from backup to starter ~ I mean it might take him a couple of weeks right ~ And who could blame him ~ He has never played in this offense right ~ Teddy hasn’t played in 16 months right ~ ???

Teddy was just activated 2 or 3 weeks ago ~ Heck I cant remember now ~ I’m brain dead from all the fussing ~ And yes I was willing and able ~ And for some reason I was right in the middle of it ~ Why ~ I guess its because I love you guys so much ~ Really I do ~ Smiley Face 🙂

So who has anything to b!tch about ~ ??? No one and thats the only a fact we know so far ~

    • David Prestin

Yup, take away the 3 fumbles and vikes would be 8-1.

  • Case threw the 2nd INT and Teddy dashed to get his helmet and warm up – that tells me that Zimmer let Teddy know he would be put in the game at the first sign of danger. That suggests Case gets to keep playing until he puts the game in serious jeopardy.
People are forgetting the discussions held 2 years ago showing how poorly Teddy went through progressions, even diagramming plays where he missed the open receiver time and again because of following his first read from the snap. They also forget the many sure TDs missed on deep throws when he airmailed the ball 10 yards beyond the WR. In preseason last year, it looked like he had made progress on both traits before his knee imploded.
But, consider this – over the 2014-15 seasons, Teddy threw 21 INTs. Keenum has 21 INTs as well – over a 5-year span, and was averaging only 2/year, until he threw 11 last season.
People warned about Teddy’s skinny knees and small hands when he was drafted. Looks like both negative traits have rung true and affected his play. Small hands equate to declining accuracy/control of the ball the harder/farther you try to throw it (one of the reasons for the gloves – better grip).
Personally, I’d like to see Case get the nod. 1. Can’t argue with success. 2. Does NOT have defective joints. 3. Has the experience with the game plan in game-time.

    • David Prestin

Also, rams won 4 games last yr….all 4 with Case at the helm. Goff was 0-7.

      • Gordon Guffey

And that was with HC who holds the record for most loses by a NFL HC in Fisher ~ Who they sign to a new deal before they fired him in the same year ~

    • Rod Morgan

“People are forgetting the discussions held 2 years ago showing how poorly Teddy went through progressions, even diagramming plays where he missed the open receiver time and again because of following his first read from the snap.”

nothing could be farther from reality than this…

      • What exactly are you disputing? The discussions and diagrams in the comments – because that actually happened. Or, Teddy missing open receivers because of locking on to his first read – because that actually happened too.

  • After watching Case put up 38 points against the Skins, I have no worry about the offense scoring enough this Sunday. Ironically, it’s our defense I’m worried about – handing the Skins 30 points? And the Rams have more/better weapons than the Skins did.
If Griffen is back, our D front will disrupt again, and we should pull it out.

    • Gordon Guffey

I have been shocked at how quite Hunter has been this year ~ However the Redskins OL was said to be healthy for the first time in 3 or 4 weeks ~

      • Drediock

At first I thought so too. but then I gave t some thought and, not really.
Remember Zimmers team first philosophy. And while Hunters name hasn’t been called by announcers for sacks doesnt mean he hasn’t been effective on pressures etc. Not to mention he takes up blockers which allows other players to make plays.
Plus. Zim seems to like to feature almost anyone other then the guy everyone expects him to feature.

  • David Prestin

Just announced…. Keenum gets start vs Rams

    • David Prestin

Everson Griffen on the Vikings QB situation: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That’s all I’ve got to say about it.”

      • Gordon Guffey

Thats for that update ~ !!!

    • Gordon Guffey

For those like Coller and Judd who might need proof ~ LOL ~ I really love you guys ~ You know its true ~ Smily Face 🙂

      http://www.vikings.com/news/article-1/Mike-Zimmer-Announces-Case-Keenum-Will-Start-Against-Rams/c08913eb-2f3e-47c3-a6ba-16f7a462c86b

Keenum has started seven of Minnesota’s nine games this season and is coming off a 21-for-29, 304-yard day at Washington on which he threw a career-best four touchdown passes. He was named a finalist for the FedEx Air Player of the Week.

I’m waiting on someone to bring up the two INT’s ~

  • David Prestin

Mathew, I think your first scenario has best odds. If Case struggles early in the Ram game and Vikings get down couple scores it could lead to a stadium chanting “Teddy…Teddy….Teddy” and Zimm may oblige.

Hopefully it’s late in the game with Vikings up 21 points. Let Teddy mop up in front of the home fans but not at Case’s expense.

  • linus

Zimmer isn’t going to make a QB change unless he thinks it gives them a better chance to win, and I trust his opinion on that better than the opinion of anyone commenting here.

    • SM

Totally agreed. And Case ain’t gonna be that guy the entire rest of the way, barring more injuries.

  • Michael Harnois

93 Chiefs? However I do believe Teddy is much better than Grbac.
    http://www.kcconfidential.com/2015/01/31/glazer-kansas-citys-super-bowl-that-got-away/

  • Rod Morgan

I think Keenum is the team MVP thus far in the season… I would also start him against the Rams and am very happy the Vikings signed him this year….that said..he’s not a very good QB, he has played decent overall this season in an extremely QB friendly system/situation but has had some ups and some very very down periods. he is 1-2 vs average to good teams and 5-0 vs poor teams.. As for fans who think Keenum is a franchise QB or has locked up the Vikings QB job the rest of the season ..I honestly don’t think you understand NFL football beyond a surface emotional reactionary level… sorry just MHO.

    • SM

Totall agree. The coaches also need to see what TB can do before post season and to make contract decisions.

  • drhill

Why switch the #3 rated QB, between Prescott and Wentz? Teddy almost lost his leg – and unfortunately, his leg can never be stronger. IMO if Keenum keeps up the high level of play – he is our QBOTF!

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/qbr

  • Linda Walden

Okay, why risk TBH2O if it is not necessary. The idea is to get through to the playoffs with as little damage as possible. Zim knows what he’s doing. They know what TBh20 is, look, I am from Louisville, and have seen stuff for myself. Zimm and Co. Simply don’t want to mortgage the future for the now. They are keeping this guy under wraps, as long as Keenum is winning well, why “f” _with success. No one has patience, this guy almost lost his leg, and the fact he’s where he is just proves the power of determination. And ah, look at him now. Obviously a lot more mature. Time is on their side. And no, I don’t think the guy is a simple “game mgr” I do think he will surprise a lot of people at one point. Case in point Deshawn Watson! You can’t win with your guy on crutches,

    • SM

Shout out to Louky gurl! Go cards, I am an alum and loooooong time Vikes fan.

They don’t know what post injury TB is like, and need to see real games, before season’s end to make contract decisions. If he cannot perform, no big contract.

  • Kevanyon

After reading all the comments, my conclusion is Bridgewater and Keenum are equals and neither has an advantage over the other. TB=CK. Both are middle tier QBs. By design of our current scheme both (if started) have the opportunity to win games. Let’s be happy if one goes down we have the other. Now let’s get ready for the Rams and keep this winning streak going! SKOL!

  • Brett Bentley

Teddy knows how to win. He brought us a NFC North championship and looked awesome in pre-season last year. The O-Line situation wasn’t good (except for the run). He was under constant pressure and ran for his live most of the time. The line is better, running game is good, backs catching balls, better receiving weapons and time to throw. Start Case against the Rams and Teddy against Detroit. Need to see if he is healed and ready.
