Here’s what got Towns ejected, Teague throws a hip check and Butler in Twitter feud

Karl-Anthony Towns’ evening came to an early end on Friday in Utah when the Wolves star center was ejected just before halftime after being called for his second technical foul for arguing a non-call in a 116-108 loss to the Jazz.

Towns received his first technical for dead-ball contact of an elbow to Jae Crowder’s face, according to referee Kane Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald gave Towns a second technical for what he told reporters was “continuous complaint,” adding, “three or four plays in a row he was complaining, and a technical foul was given.”

Wolves coach Tom Thibodeau, asked about the technical fouls on Towns, said: “Let’s just say I was very disappointed in the way the game was managed.”

Here’s a look at the final technical called on Towns and his reaction.

The game turned nasty in the fourth quarter when Wolves guard Jeff Teague was ejected after he delivered what amounted to a hip-check to Utah guard Ricky Rubio.

Teague was called for a flagrant foul 2 with 5:20 left. There were three ejections and five technical fouls called in the game.

Crowder attempted to confront Teague after the incident and later Crowder and Thibodeau began to argue and were given double technicals. Crowder was ejected late in the game after he was given another technical foul.

Injured Wolves star Jimmy Butler, meanwhile, liked Teague’s aggressive play and tweeted about it. He hadn’t tweeted since Dec. 16.

Butler wasn’t done. He then tweeted about Crowder, his former teammate at Marquette, arguing with Thibodeau.

Crowder responded via social media.

Crowder just smiled when asked about the exchange. “He is a competitor, he’s a trash-talker, he is all of the above,” Crowder said of Butler. “He wishes he was out there competing in a game like that, that’s what [is] probably eating him up the most, he wishes he was on the court, fighting with his guys … that’s my guy.”
